TACLOBAN CITY – In his visit to Tacloban and other towns in Leyte Wednesday, former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada was flooded with questions regarding Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay’s recent announcement that the city executive would be available to run for president in the 2010 elections.
Erap said Binay has a good chance to become the opposition’s standard bearer because he has proved himself as an efficient chief executive.
“Napaganda niya ang Makati, health services, education, lahat ‘yon nagawa ni Mayor Binay,” he said.
However he clarified that the opposition still has to talk on who really would be their presidential candidate knowing that other members of the opposition bloc has also showed interest in running.
“Malayo pa naman e, so may time pa ang bawat kandidato na maglibot at malaman kung ano talaga ang pulso ng bayan,” Erap said.
If the opposition fails to come up solidly with one candidate, Erap however said he would be forced to run, “Last option na ‘yan. Kung hindi magkakaisa ang oposisyon, tatakbo ako.”
But for supporters in Leyte who all came to welcome the former president with their placards saying, “ERAP pa rin in 2010”, Estrada would be the best choice in the next presidential derby.
“We still want him to run because we love him. He cares for the poor,” said Trinidad Fielmon, one of Estrada’s supporters.
