Election supervisor shot dead in Isabela

MANILA - Two gunmen shot and killed the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) provincial election supervisor in Isabela province, before dawn Saturday.

The La Unioin police provincial office said election supervisor Michael Valdez was shot and killed inside the Country State Inn, which he owns, in Barangay 4 around 5:45 a.m.

Investigators said the gunmen checked in at the inn three days before the killing. It said the gunmen escaped on a red Honda Wave motorcycle after the shooting.

The provincial election official was declared dead at the Tumauini Community Hospital due to 4 gunshot wound in the body.

The provincial police office said Valdez's half brother, Felimon Asperin
Jr., also an election officer in Bauang town in La Union province, was also shot to death in January 2006.

Police have yet to determine the motive in the killing. -- Report from radio dzMM
