Two 5.1 magnitude earthquakes jolted Davao provinces on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the first quake struck off the gulf of Davao Oriental at 3:59 a.m.

Its epicenter was 62 kilometers southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental.

The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Taragona, Davao Oriental; Intensity 3 in Davao City; and Intensity 2 in Caraga, Davao Oriental, Polomolok in South Cotabato and Tagum City in Davao del Norte.

The second quake struck 120 kilometers southeast of Mati at 8:39 a.m.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Davao City and Intensity 1 in General Santos City.

The Phivolcs said the cause of the two quakes were tectonic, a common occurrence in the country that sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.

No one was reported hurt in both quakes. -- Report from ANC, ABS-CBN Southern Mindanao
