'Kwitis' factory in Bulacan explodes
MANILA, Philippines - An explosion destroyed a makeshift "kwitis" factory in Baliuag, Bulacan, Wednesday morning.
Senior Superintendent Fernando Villanueva, Bulacan provincial police director, said the explosion hit the makeshift fireworks factory in Barangay Sto. Niño, around 10 a.m..
Villanueva said 3 workers were working on some mixed chemicals for kwitis when the explosion happened.
He said the 3 workers survived the explosion and escaped unhurt.
Police said they are now investigating a certain Narciso Roque, the alleged owner of the kwitis factory.
On Monday night, an illegal fireworks factory in Angat town exploded, killing a woman and wounding 8 other people.
The explosion took place around 6:20 p.m. at a factory operated by couple Allan and Beverly Sarmiento.
The factory was located in a residential area in Sitio Tugatog, Barangay Marungko.
