Hundreds fall ill in N. Mindanao due to contaminated water
Over 1,000 people have been hospitalized in two provinces in Northern Mindanao after drinking contaminated water.
Reports gathered by ABS-CBN Misamis Oriental said at least 560 residents of Tagoloan town in the province were brought to the municipal health center after after experiencing stomach aches, vomiting, and suffering from diarrhea.
The report said the municipal health center had to put up makeshift tents to accommodate patients with severe dehydration.
Meanwhile, hospitals in Cagayan de Oro said they have admitted some 600 patients since Saturday.
Ignacio Moreno, provincial health officer, said water samples taken from the water distributors of the two areas have tested with coliform and amoeba.
Moreno said the provincial health office have yet to determine if the patients were suffering from cholera. He said rectal swabbing and water testing have been conducted to determine the real cause of the residents' illnesses. With a report from PJ dela Peña, ABS-CBN Misamis Oriental
