Pacquiao to help Bacolod fire victims
Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has agreed to extend help to victims of a fire in Barangay 19, Bacolod City earlier this month.
This was confirmed by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia who had arrived from Las Vegas after watching Pacquiao's fight with Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
Leonardia said Pacquiao was not aware of the November 2 fire incident until he informed him of the matter over dinner during the last day of the Pacman's workout.
He said that although he did not push for any amount for the November 2 fire victims, he will follow-up the matter with Pacquiao when things have already settled.
Pacquiao gave P1 million to the victims of Typhoon Frank in Bacolod City last year. He is the adopted son of the city.
Meanwhile, the local chief executive turned over to Barangay Captain Jocelyn Uychiat financial assistance given by Bacolenos in the United States to the fire victims.
He said Bacolenos in America were able to raise $1,630, which is equivalent to P78,240.
At keast 17 people were killed while huindreds more were left homeless by the fire.
