Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office reminded businessmen and vendors to refrain from selling toy guns that appear as exact replicas of real firearms.
Senior Superintendent Rosendo Franco, provincial police chief, said that the sale of toy guns increase during the holidays because replicas of real guns are popular gifts every Christmas.
Franco however reminded vendors and the public that the toy guns are also used by criminal elements in their illegal activities.
“Sometimes these replicas are used for nefarious purposes so it’s a fair warning to businessmen not sell these exact replicas of firearms,” Franco said in the vernacular.
Franco said police will confiscate replicas of guns sold in sidewalks and department stores in the province.
Presidential Letter of Instruction Number 1264 prohibits the importation, manufacture, distribution, sale and display of toy guns.
“I however also tell policemen not to confiscate items that are not exact replicas since it will affect our businessmen,” said Franco.
