Five people, including three children, were buried alive after a landslide hit Monkayo town in Compostela Valley province Thursday night.
Senior Superintendent Ronaldo de la Rosa, Comval police chief, said search and rescue teams have recovered the bodies of Epot Alcos, 40; Cristina Daug, 6; Maricris Daug, 11, Marjun Daug, 7; and Dominador Taan, 44.
The victims died after a landslide hit Purok 17, Sitio Tinao, Barangay Mount Diwata around 6 p.m. Authorities said heavy rains caused the landslide.
De la Rosa said retrieval teams were still trying to dig up two missing people identified as Myrna Daug and Saturnino Mangog. Several residents of Purok 17 have told authorities that more people could have been buried alive by the landslide.
Authorities said at least six homes were damaged by the landslide.
Several towns in Compostela Valley have been identified by authorities as landslide-prone areas.
