MANILA - A "balut cook," who is against traditional politicians and vote buying, is challenging the incumbent congressman of Agusan del Norte's 1st district.

Jaime Salan, 57, is the first aspirant to file his certificate of candidacy in Butuan City. He is running for congressman.
 
Salan, currently councilman of Barangay Holy Redeemer in Butuan City, is a balut cook.

He will be facing incumbent congressman Jose Aquino II, a member of ruling party Lakas-Kampi-CMD. Aquino is a businessman.

Salan said his advocacy is to help poor people like him.

He said he is anticipating people to criticize him for attempting to run for a seat in the House of Representatives. -- Report from May Diez, ABS-CBN Butuan
