Imelda Marcos eyeing congressional seat, says gov
Former First Lady Imelda Marcos is eyeing a return to politics by running for the congressional seat of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte, Gov. Michael Keon said Tuesday.
Keon told ABS-CBN that Marcos is "90 percent sure" of running next year for the position to be vacated by her son, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. The younger Marcos is running for senator under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan party as well as a guest candidate of the Nacionalista Party.
Keon said the former first lady may run unopposed in next year's polls. Sources interviewed by ABS-CBN said the former first lady considered running for the post so that the Marcos family need not endorse anyone in next year's election.
The former first lady was elected congresswoman of Ilocos Norte's 1st District in 1995. She previously placed fifth in the 1992 presidential election.
Marcos is a registered voter of Batac, Ilocos Norte. With a report from Rezlyn Salud, ABS-CBN News
