Bulusan spews ash anew
SORSOGON, Philippines - Mount Bulusan again spewed ash at around 1:27 p.m. on Wednesday.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) regional resident volcanologist Ed Laguerta described it as a minor ash explosion, significantly less than the phreatic expolsion last Sunday that prompted residents at the foot of the volcano to evacuate.
Cogon Elementary School, which is just a few kilometers from the permanent danger zone, cancelled classes as a safety precaution should there be significant ashfall.
Students and other residents, however, weren't alarmed and still remained in the vicinity.
They said they have seen worse, and their experiences told them there was no need to panic and leave their homes.
Rains also caused a lahar flow in Barangay Cogon Wednesday morning.
The lahar flow did not reach residential areas.
The Irosin municipal government is planning dredging operations next week to prevent the overflowing of lahar.
