Bulacan gov, 19 mayors join LP
MANILA - Administration ally Bulacan Governor Joselito "Jon-Jon" Mendoza and a majority of mayors from the province have jumped to Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's Liberal Party (LP).
Mendoza's sister, former governor Josie dela Cruz, said their family sees the LP as the rightful party they should align with because of its reform advocacy.
Dela Cruz said the family has recently launched their local party, Partido Del Pilar, which has entered into a coalition with the LP.
She said her brother, a member of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's Kabalikat ng Mamamayang Pilipino (Kampi), and 19 of the 24 mayors of Bulacan are now with the LP, supporting Aquino's presidential run.
Kampi has merged with the Lakas-CMD, which is fielding former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro in the presidential race.
Dela Cruz said the family has also decided to field her again in the gubernatorial race. She said Mendoza is running for representative of the province's third district.
The administration's Lakas-Kampi-CMD has been losing close allies in the local level. Majority of the defectors from the administration have joined the LP and the Nacionalista Party of Sen. Manuel Villar.
