'Urduja' kills 3, displaces thousands in Northern Mindanao

MANILA - Three people, including two babies, have been reported dead and thousands displaced in Northern Mindanao due to landslides and floods caused by tropical depression Urduja.

The provincial Office of Civil Defense (OCD) identified the fatalities as one-year-old Isnaje Rallos, 4-month-old baby Sajesah Rallos and Dionisio Quiloman, 62. It added that Roel Rallos, a relative of the two babies remained missing.

The babies died in a landslide that hit Jasaan town in Misamis Oriental at the height of the storm.

The OCD said floods and landslides caused by the storm displaced 77,678 families from Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City.

Urduja has weakened into a low pressure area. It was last spotted260 kilometers east of Mindanao. -- Report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
