MANILA - House Speaker Prospero Nograles on Saturday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor of Davao City.

"This will be like the most anticipated fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. And since I am an ardent Pacquiao supporter, I'll be the Pacquiao in this fight," Nograles said in a statement.

The House Speaker expects to face Davao City Vice-Mayor Sarah Duterte, daughter of incumbent Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Nograles said if he wins, he will stop summary executions in the city.

He also took a swipe at the incumbent mayor, saying he will not use "fear" to ensure peace in the city.

“Unlike Duterte's creed that drug users and petty criminals are legitimate targets of assassinations, I believe that using fear to impose one's will to the citizenry is sign of weak and incompetent leadership. There are so many options that are available to ensure a peaceful city without resorting to these horrifying acts of summary killings. This solution is very simplistic .You cannot fight crime by committing another crime,” he pointed out.

Nograles, meanwhile, announced that his son, Karlo, is going to run for congressman.
