Suspected NPA rebels raid police station in Isabela
MANILA - Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) raided a police station in Isabela province Sunday and carted away firearms, ammunition as well as police uniforms and office equipment, a police report said.
The alleged rebels, estimated to be 40 strong, came onboard a dump truck and attacked the police station in Divilacan town in Isabela, according to a text message from Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian, Cagayan Valley police director.
The dump truck used was reportedly seized from employees of nearby Maconacon town.
The alleged rebels reportedly held at bay 2 policemen inside the station while others were held outside the station.
They purportedly carted away 2 M16 automatic rifles, 1 caliber .45 pistol, at least 2 grenades, a bandolier with several magazines of ammunition for M16 rifle, 7 sets of police uniforms, a typewriter and a base radio.
There was no casualty reported in the incident.
The NPA and the Communist Party of the Philippines has been waging a more than 40-year armed insurgency in the Philippines.
