Case vs Reyes brods not dead, says Ortega widow
MANILA, Philippines - The widow of slain environmentalist, Gerry Ortega, has broken her silence on a Court of Appeals' resolution on the case.
The CA had nullified the second investigating panel of the Department of Justice that recommended murder charges against former Palawan governor Joel Reyes and his brother, Coron Mayor Mario Reyes, citing a procedural flaw.
Patty Ortega, widow of the late environmentalist, said the case against the Reyes brothers is not dead and they will continue to fight for justice.
The Ortegas' lawyer, Alex Avisado, said nowhere in the ruling did the CA absolve the Reyes brothers for the killing.
"Kung titingnan kala natin parang talo na pero di po. Buhay ang kaso. Ang kaso sa RTC hindi pa nawawala. Meron pang pabuya P2 million sa bawat ulo ng nagtatagong Reyes."
