Devanadera vies for Quezon congressional seat
MANILA - Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera on Tuesday said she will run for congresswoman in the 1st district of Quezon province.
Devanadera said a Supreme Court allowing appointed government officials running for office to remain at their posts and not resign helped her to decide on her political plans for 2010.
She also said she is committed to seeing justice done in the case of the Maguindanao massacre that saw 57 people killed last November 23.
In its decision, the Supreme Court ruled that government officials need not be deemed resigned and can continue in their position even after they file their certificate of candidacy.
Devanadera is the former mayor of Sampaloc town in Quezon. She was president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines during the administration of President Fidel Ramos.
