Four men were arrested after policemen from Murcia Police Station seized from their possession, four .45 caliber pistols, seven magazines with 48 pieces of ammunition in front of Barangay Caliban hall in Murcia town Monday morning.
Arrested were Rodolfo Gajo, Gerardo Alvarez, Abner Bodegas and Jimpaul Elizalde, who identified himself as an Army reservist.
Chief Inspector Simeon Gane, Murcia police chief, said that the three other men initially identified themselves as members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) but were found to be untrue.
“We were informed that they were carrying firearms so we immediately proceeded to the area and recovered from them these guns,” Gane said.
It appeared that the three armed men accompanied Gajo in the barangay hall to settle a dispute with a farm laborer.
“Possibly, their purpose is to threaten the other party who happened to be the complainant,” Gane said.
Two of the four firearms were found to be unlicensed.
“Even if they have licenses for the guns, they are still liable for illegal possession because they don’t possess any permit to carry (PTC) firearms outside of their residences,” Gane explained.
All four were detained at the Murcia Police Station pending the filing of illegal possession of firearms against them.
