COTABATO CITY -- An assistant election officer of Parang, Maguindanao was gunned down by unidentified armed men around 9 a.m. Monday in Manabuan village in Matalam, North Cotabato.

According to Police Senior Inspector Elias Colonia of Matalam Municipal Police Station, the victim, Ted Monteverde Sispon, came from Kilometer 114, Binuligan in Kidapawan City, and on his way to Matalam.

He was on board a multicab when two unidentified men flagged the vehicle. As the multicab was already occupied by passengers, the suspects allegedly followed the multicab on board a motorcycle.

Upon reaching Purok 3 in Brgy. Manabuan, the armed men approached the multicab and shot the victim.

Sispon was able to get out of the vehicle and ran but one of the suspects chased him and shot him in the head, killing him.

Police believe the suspects are hired killers, and not residents of Matalam.

After the incident, the suspects fled going to the direction of Poblacion, Matalam.

Meanwhile, authorities believed that the incident has something to do with the victim's job as an assistant election officer in Parang, Maguindanao.
