Death toll from 'Pablo' in Davao Oriental rises to 51

MANILA, Philippines – The death toll from typhoon "Pablo" in Davao Oriental has risen to 51, a military spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, spokesperson of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division, said 16 of the fatalities came from the coastal town of Cateel and 12 from Boston.

Davao Oriental provincial police director Supt. Romil Mitra earlier said the deaths were due to a flash flood caused by a storm surge.

Another report said an evacuation center collapsed in Cateel.

Aside from Cateel and Boston, three deaths were also reported in Caraga town, and one each in Banganga, Tarragona, and Manay.

Latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 3,660 people were being catered inside evacuation centers in Davao Oriental as of 6 a.m. – with a report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
