MANILA -  A former member of the communist New People's Army was waylaid by suspected former comrades in Barangay Yao-Yao, Cauayan town in Negros Occidental Saturday.

Authorities identified the victim as Jimmy Reponte alias Nalde.

His common law wife, Fevie Sumanion, said she and Reponte were walking towards Barangay Masaling in Cauayan when three men confronted Reponte and accused him of being a military spy and a suspect in cattle-rustling activities.

One of the suspects then shot Reponte, killing him instantly.

The killing happened a month after the murder of Levy Remonsada, a member of the Barangay Defense System, who was also shot dead by alleged rebels in Barangay Camindangan, Cauayan.

The military claimed the group of Reniel Cellon, alias Ka Kumpol, was behind the deaths of Reponte and Remonsada.
