Magnitude 5.8 quake jolts Davao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off Davao del Sur on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 5:45 a.m. Its epicenter was located 65 kilometers southeast of Malita.
The following earthquake intensities were felt in these areas:
- Intensity IV - Mati, Davao Oriental
- Intensity III - General Santos City; Digos City, Manay, Davao Oriental
- Intensity II - Koronadal, South Cotabato
The earthquake was tectonic in origin which means it was caused by the movement of a local fault. It had a depth of 32 kms.
Phivolcs said aftershocks and damages are not expected from the quake.
