Tanod accidentally guns down own cousin
MANILA - A man was killed after he was accidentally shot by his own cousin, a barangay tanod (watchman), in Barangay Luna in Bolinao, Pangasinan.
Authorities said the victim, 50-year-old Raul Salindong, was accidentally shot by his cousin while they were having a drinking session.
According to the suspect, whose name was not identified, Salindong was then playing with his gun.
He then attempted to take the gun from the victim. This, however, resulted in a scuffle, with him accidentally firing the gun and shooting the victim.
Salindong sustained a gunshot wound in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect admitted that the gun was his and said that he uses it in his work as the chief watchman of the barangay.
Police have yet to recover the firearm, which is believed to be a .22-caliber magnum gun.
Investigation is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, another shooting incident occurred in Barangay Quintong in San Carlos City, which resulted to the death of a 17-year-old boy.
The victim, identified as Angelo Melendez, was shot dead by a 47-year-old tricycle driver after a heated argument,
Melendez and his friend were already on their way home when the shooting occurred.
Melendez, his friend and the suspect were all drunk at the time of the incident.
Recovered from the suspect was 9-millimeter pistol.
