Iloilo City police have deployed 41 “Santa Cops” to different terminals and commercial establishments starting Monday.

It said the deployment aims to lessen the number of criminal incidents such as snatching, pickpocket, and shoplifting during the Christmas Holidays.

These policemen wear their police uniforms with a Santa cap. They are also without guns so that the public would not be intimidated in case they need help.

Santa cops’ visibility around the city is considered an effective formula against street crimes during the holiday season.

This police program was first launched in the National Capital Region early this month.

Policemen in Iloilo City said they hope they will be able to maintain peace and order in the city while celebrating the yuletide.
