MANILA, Philippines – An 83-year-old man attempted to commit suicide after killing his sick wife in Zamboanga City on Wednesday.

Severiano delos Reyes was immediately brought to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment after stabbing himself in the stomach with the same bolo he used to kill his wife, Catalina, 80.

Catalina died after being stabbed in the stomach.

Neighbors noticed Severiano closing the door and window of their house. A few minutes later, neighbors heard sounds of someone in pain, so they called the police.

The couple’s daughter, Concepcion Fernando, said her father is suffering from mental illness.

The family is still contemplating on whether to file charges against the suspect. -report from RJ Rosalado, ABS-CBN News
