Truck falls off ravine in Benguet, 3 killed
MANILA, Philippines - A delivery truck laden with vegetables fell off a 200-ft ravine in Tuba, Benguet Thursday, killing all 3 of its passengers.
Police said victims Roberto Manglongad, his son Roberto Jr., and Hero Cita, were driving the truck from La Trinidad to Urdaneta, Pangasinan to deliver vegetables. They said the vehicle stalled upon reaching Camp 2 on Kennon Road before veering off the highway and falling off the ravine.
SPO1 Edmund Dulay of the Tuba police station said he heard the truck's horn blaring before it fell off the road. "I was driving a motorcycle when I heard the truck's horn. I just saw it fall off the mountain," he said.
Dulay said rescuers had a hard time retrieving the victims' bodies because the area where they fell was very steep. The bodies were brought to a local funeral parlor before being released to the victims' families.
The truck's owner, Yang Lim, said he will help the victims' families pay for funeral expenses.
