GENERAL SANTOS CITY - An improvised explosive devise (IED) was discovered and safely defused in a lodging house here, Thursday afternoon.

Authorities have yet to confirm the composition of the bomb they defused.

It was left inside room number 16 of Zabala Sanitary Lodge along Magsaysay Avenue in the city, just meters away from a hotel where more or less forty visitors of People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao were checked in Wednesday.

Hotel officials said however that the room occupants have already checked out early morning Thursday.

Police explosives and ordnance disposal (EOD) unit confirmed that the IED was placed in a container.

Frustouso Zabala, owner of the lodging house, informed authorities that prior to the discovery of the IED two men checked in Tuesday and checked out of the lodge early Thursday.

Police authorities chose not to disclose the identity of the two men as the probe was still on.

Senior Superintendent Robert Po, General Santos City police chief, said that they are still confirming if the incident here was connected to the twin blasts in Iligan City hours before they discovered the IED here.

Authorities here have assured the public their safety amidst the discovered IED. -With a report from Francis Canlas, ABS-CBN SOCSKSARGEN
