MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Edgardo Angara has formally withdrawn his candidacy for the gubernatorial post of Aurora in the 2013 midterm elections.

Instead, his younger brother, Baler Mayor Arthur Angara, will run for the post as a substitute.

The older Angara filed his affidavit of withdrawal at the Commission on Elections office in Aurora Thursday while his younger brother filed his CoC as the gubernatorial candidate of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP).

The younger Angara will be running against current Aurora Vice-Governor Gerardo Noveras.

Noveras earlier quit as provincial chairman of the Liberal Party after he refused to give way to Angara's gubernatorial bid.

The senator's nephew, Rommel Angara, is running for vice-governor of Aurora against former Baler Mayor Emil Etcubañez. Report by ABS-CBN Aurora Correspondent Chris Pascual
