Acting Cebu gov: I am in full control
MANILA, Philippines – Acting governor of Cebu Agnes Magpales maintained that she is in “full control” of the situation in the province amid the defiance of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia of a suspension order issued by Malacañang.
Magpales, however, said she is forced to take up office at the legislative department after Garcia refused to vacate the office of the governor.
“It seems that everything is normal except that the suspended governor is still holding office at the main building, me at the legislative building--my old office when I was vice governor,” Magpale told ANC’s “Top Story” on Saturday.
Garcia has been holed up at the provincial capitol for 3 straight days, where a number of her supporters are also camping to show their support.
But Magpale said there is no tension in the province, adding that she has the full support of police and department heads of the provincial government.
Magpale also defended the shutdown of government-owned Sugbo TV, saying it was done in coordination with local officials and the regional director of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The closure of the TV station is among the first major orders of Magpale.
