Fourteen houses were ravaged by huge waves in Barangay Zone 6, Pulupandan in Negros Occidental Friday evening.

Rica del Rosario's house which was made of bamboo and nipa was totally damaged after big waves hit it amid a heavy downpour.

Del Rosario said she first brought her five children to her cousin's house. She then went back to their house to save some of their clothes. She was however shocked when her house suddenly collapsed and was swept away by the waves.

"I was inside the house when it happened. The bed fell into the water when our house collapsed. I was only able to save a few clothes. I thought I would drown. Good thing, I was able to shout for help," Del Rosario said.

Her house was among the four houses which were totally destroyed.

This is not the first time that this happened in the area according to Melita Toriales. She has been living beside the shore for 30 years now.

Toriales admitted that several typhoons have hit the area and put their lives to danger but they have no plans of relocating to a safer a place.

"This is so far the worst. But we cannot leave the place because our livelihood comes from the sea," Toriales said.

The affected families are awaiting assistance from the local government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Authorities are still trying to determine the cost of damage.
