ZAMBOANGA CITY- Zamboanga City Airport Manager Celso Bayabos said four air traffic controllers will remain relieved from their duties and responsibilities for a few days pending the result of an investigation being conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Bayabos said four investigators from CAAP arrived Saturday to investigate the air traffic controllers individually in a closed-door dialogue Sunday.

“Generally the reasons they gave why they were late was because of the Christmas celebrations they had. They also explained the circumstances, knowing that public transport was difficult especially a day after the holidays,” Bayabos said.

Bayabos said “relieved” meant they would be temporarily be prohibited from the “microphone” while the investigation is undergoing.

The relief came after three commercial flights of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific had difficulty landing in Zamboanga City Airport when reportedly no one in the tower would give visual clearance fro the planes to land.

Bayabos said a communication had come from the CAAP to all airports in the country to make their respective traffic controllers report 30 minutes earlier from their schedule.
