Conjoined twins die in Dagupan hospital
MANILA, Philippines – A set of conjoined twins born with a rare medical condition passed away in a hospital in Dagupan City Thursday night.
Doctors said the twins, who share one body but have their own set of internal organs, died at around 9 p.m.
The twins—Sarah Mae and Sarah Grace—were born at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) on December 28 with a condition called dicephalus parapagus.
“Dalawa po ang ulo, dalawa ang puso, dalawa ang atay, dalawa ang baga at dalawa din ang spine,” said R1MC spokesperson, Dr. Mike Canto.
The twins are the first babies of Sarita Prestosa and Samuel Quadro.
Prestosa is still in the hospital due to unpaid bills. The parents are appealing for financial assistance.
Prestosa said she only learned that she was carrying conjoined twins when she had her very first ultrasound the day before she delivered the twins through caesarean section. -- Report from Kori Quintos, ABS-CBN News Dagupan
