Classes suspended in flood-hit Laoag City

Elementary and highschool classes in Laoag City, Lanao del Norte were suspended Friday due to floods caused by rains brought on by tropical storm "Gorio."

The city disaster coordinating council said at least 10 villages were flooded due to continuous rains over Laoag and other parts of Ilocos Norte.

It said power supply in a number of areas in the city have been cut off.

Storm signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur as of 11 a.m. Friday.

Weather bureau PAGASA said Gorio was 110 kilometers northwest of Laoag City as of 11 a.m.

The weather bureau has cautioned residents in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur who are in low lying areas and near mountain slopes. With a report from Randy Menor, ABS-CBN Ilocos
