Zambales drug bust nets 4
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga - Four suspected illegal drugs users were arrested Thursday by anti-narcotics operatives in a raid of a drug den believed to be "catering" to night shift workers of Hanjin Heavy Industries in Subic, Zambales.
Police identified the four as Salvador Saavedra, 51, laborer; William Macawili, 42, crane operator; Gerry Sotelo, 34, driver; and Rowel Seranio, 49, of West Bajac-bajac, Olongapo City. Saavedra, Macawili and Sotelo are employees of Hanjin and residents of Sitio Tahimik, Barangay Calapacuan.
Seized from the four were 2.5 grams of metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P5,000, police reports said.
The raid was conducted on the strength of a search warrant at the residence of a certain Erick del Carmen who is listed number one in the police records of target personalities.
Del Carmen, also known as Eric Sotelo, eluded arrest using the backdoor of his house. Drugs paraphernalia including tooter, aluminum foil and lighters as well as an air gun and silver fashion jewelry were seized in the raid.
Senior Supt. Roland Felix, police director of the Zambales Provincial Police Office (ZPPO), said the arrest of the suspects was part of an intensified antinarcotics drive by the provincial government. He said his office had been receiving information about the drug den in the past weeks.
The arrested suspects were brought to Subic police station for further interrogation, police said.
