More than 400 families were rendered homeless in Davao City when a fire hit a residential area inside the Adgao district Friday afternoon.

Reports said the fire started at around 3 pm in Barangay Leon. The blaze quickly spread, burning down at least 200 houses.

The fire also damaged parts of the San Juan National High School.

Most of the residents were not able to salvage their belongings.

Fire fighters and members of the Philippine Air Force took more than an hour to put the fire under control.

The Air Force used one of its helicopters to pour water on the burning residential area.

The affected families are temporarily occupying the San Juan National High School as they await help from the local government.

City officials already provided the victims a large tent to give them temporary shelter. With a report from Michelle Robin, ABS-CBN Davao City
