Zamboanga City Rep. Isabel Climaco was elated over the Supreme Court decision ruling as unconstitutional the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)
“We are elated with the Honorable Justices’ decision. May this be able to guide future actions as a precedent,” said the congresswoman from Zamboanga City's First District.
She thanked Zamboanga City’s legal team for spearheading the preparation and the filing of the petition against the Bangsamoro Judicial Entity before the Supreme Court last August 4.
“We thank everyone who made this a victory,” she said.
The lady solon is one of the petitioners along with City Mayor Celso Lobregat and District II Congressman Erbie Fabian. She, too, was also present during the oral arguments on the case at the High Tribunal in Manila.
She stressed that the Supreme Court decision will provide guidance and basis for future negotiations.
“It has proven that the Constitution, being the supreme law of the land, must always be the basis of any legal undertaking”, Climaco said.
The Supreme Court's minority decision declared the anti-MOA petitions as moot and academic saying that the Palace had already decided not to pursue the signing of the agreement following a public uproar.
