Noynoy, Villar slug it out on the Internet, too
MANILA, Philippines - The heated exchanges between frontrunners Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Manny” Villar over the debate and presidential surveys is spilling over on to the Internet especially on popular social networking site Facebook which counts 9 to 12 million Filipino users, more than 7 million of whom are of voting age.

As of midnight Wednesday, Aquino's official Facebook page lists more than 304,000 supporters; Villar's has 267,000. He's fast catching up on his rival just like in the recent result of a Social Weather Station survey.
This has led to accusations from Aquino’s camp that Villar's fans are mostly from fake accounts.
On Villar's page, however, a reply was posted saying the charges are desperate.
The head of Aquino's new media group Vicente “Enteng” Romano said Villar is outspending them 10 to 1 on advertising on the Internet.
Romano said he estimates that Villar spends $1,000 or P47,000 a day on the Internet, compared to their $50 to $100 or P4,700 budget daily.
Camille Villar, youth representative of her father's campaign, sits in his Internet group. She said accusations attributing her father's rise in popularity to ad spending are getting tiresome. She said their success has a simple explanation - their hard work on the campaign is paying off.
For Jay Jaboneta, who began as a supporter of Liberal Party senatorial bet Alexander Lacson and then signed up as one of Aquino’s earliest supporters on Facebook, and for Amica Paulino, who became a Villar supporter after studying different candidate's fan pages, Facebook is one of the best sources of information on the respective campaigns of the 2 presidential contenders.
They said they get news directly from their candidate’s camp and fellow supporters.
They too are getting involved in the competition
There are also rogue sites, like one that pokes fun at Villar's TV ad campaign against poverty. It has more than 16,000 supporters.
Both camps said this is just a taste of what lies ahead as they brace themselves for more mud throwing on the Internet as the campaign intensifies towards May. Ces Oreña-Drilon, ABS-CBN News

noynoy
Unreliable Data
Just like surveys. The number of Facebook fans is not a gauge of how many of this will be translated to real votes come election day. Even during the time of marking the ballot, a Filipino can change his/her mind. Remember the Ramos vs Mitra scenario? With the printing of campaign ads scandal where Mitra got involved, he was completely destroyed by that scandal week before election day and lost the presidency where he is a frontrunner before the scandal.
