MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - The commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 22 will be a special holiday for all schools nationwide, the Office of the Press Secretary announced Monday.

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9492, all holidays, except those which are religious in nature, are moved to the nearest Monday unless otherwise modified by law, order or proclamation, the OPS said in a press release.

In July last year, President Arroyo signed Proclamation No. 1841 declaring the regular holidays, special (non-working) days, and special holidays (for all schools) for the year 2010.

Under the proclamation, February 22, or the Monday nearest February 25, was declared a special holiday to serve as an "inspiration to all Filipinos everywhere as we continue to chart our collective course as a nation and as a people."

Meanwhile, offices in public and private institutions will still be open on the said date.

The country yearly celebrates the February 25, 1986 People Power revolution which restored basic liberties such as free speech, freedom of assembly and a free press after 14 years of Martial rule. (First posted 02/15/2010 8:19 PM)

Employee's Compensation on Feb. 22

Kasi sa Proclamation 1841 ni PGMA "WHEREAS, the EDSA People Power Revolution, which restored and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country, serves as an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere as a nation and as a people;" so bakait special holiday for all schools? Ibig bang sabihin walang pasok ang mga eskwelahan pero may pasok sa private sector? so kung special holiday siya na working holiday for the bank, private sector et cetera, May double compensation ba na applicable tulad ng National Regula Holiday? Pakisagot man dyan yung mahilig pumasok sa holiday... Nyahahaha!

Teachers On Holiday

Teachers are definitely included in the holiday, except for employees of school offices. http://alxjm.com/2010/02/15/february-22-special-holiday-only-for-schools/

included po ba mga teacher sa holiday? kami po kasi may pasok etudyante lang po wala... depende po ba sa management ng school?

Why Only the Schools?

Why are schools singled out as the only one to have a special holiday for this celebration? Isn't for all Filipinos?
