The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday released a memorandum on measures versus the influenza A (H1N1) flu for all schools in time for the opening of classes in June.

The DepEd memo orders all school officials to mobilize teachers, school health and nutrition personnel, and alternative learning systems coordinators to disseminate information about the A (H1N1) flu.

DepEd Health and Nutrition Center director Dr. Thelma Navarrez said that the memorandum contained a health advisory from the Department of Health (DOH) which is being distributed to all schools.

Navarrez said the DOH advisory contains information on the signs and symptoms of the virus.

She also said that personal hygiene has been taught in schools for years, and will be emphasized more in light of the virus scare.

Teachers and parents will also be advised to be more vigilant about their children's health, especially on students who traveled abroad or those coming from other countries.

However, Navarrez said that they won't be distributing posters, banners, and hand sanitizers because of budget constraints. Availability of these items will depend on whether DOH gives them a budget for such materials. With a report from Niña Corpuz, ABS-CBN News
