Thirteen people, including a Filipino woman, were arrested in Malaysia for their alleged involvement in an international narcotics syndicate that smuggled heroin from Pakistan.

An Agence France Presse report said the Filipina and a Singaporean woman were arrested at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal, a satellite of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, while the others were arrested in separate raids. Those arrested include seven African men, one Pakistani and three Malaysians.

"The Singaporean lady was used as a drug mule, and the Africans were responsible for recruiting the drug mules," said Othman Harun, deputy director of the Malaysian federal narcotics department.

Harun said the Singaporean woman was found in the possession of 560 grams of heroin at the time of arrest.

He said that the 13 had not yet been charged in court.

Claro Cristobal, spokesman of the Department of Foreign Affairs, said he has yet to verify the report with the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs. With Agence France Presse
