MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government has issued a travel advisory to Thailand following a planned series of anti-government protests in the country’s capital.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the travel advisory was issued “in view of the protest rallies being planned in key areas of Bangkok starting Friday, 12 March 2010.”

“Filipinos are advised to postpone all non-essential travel to Thailand, specifically  Bangkok,” the DFA said in a press statement.

The DFA also advised Filipinos already in Thailand to avoid areas that have been identified as meeting areas and staging areas for the demonstrators.

Al Jazeera reported that Thailand's government is set to impose a tough security law ahead of anti-government protests.

It reported that members of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), who wear Red Shirts, and are supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, are aiming to gather one million protesters in the capital. With Al Jazeera
