MANILA, Philippines – A 37-year-old Filipino died a few days after he was assaulted in Kagman in Saipan, an online news provider reported.

A report written by Andrew de Guzman of the Daily Marianas Variety identified the victim as Larry Gonzales, a native of Oriental Mindoro.

On March 1, Gonzales was attacked near Kagman High School in Saipan by suspect Shane Jonathan Hocog, 22. The suspect is detained at the Department of Corrections.

Gonzales was in coma for 3 days and died Thursday afternoon. Autopsy reports showed that Gonzales died of brain contusion and laceration due to blunt trauma.

His friend Ester Gracia appealed to the Filipino community to help repatriate his remains to the Philippines.

“We are appealing to the community for help so one of his brothers or sisters can come and be with him,” Gracia said in an earlier report by Raquel Bagnol of the same news provider.

Consul General Medardo Macaraig assured that the Philippine government is monitoring the case and is coordinating with Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and federal authorities.
