Final arrangements are now in process for the remains of Juana Tejada. The former caregiver died over the weekend from colon cancer in Canada.

Tejada is the caregiver who fought for her rights to be given permanent residency status in Canada after it was denied due to her health. She won her appeal and asked for the law to be amended.

Her sister Berna Tejada can hardly express her loss for the death of the sister she adores and considers a hero.

"Si ate as very responsible. Alam niya iniisip niya lahat ng kabutihan para sa amin. Iniisip niya palagi ang kapakanan naming siyam na magkapatid," Berna said.

Tejada's husband, Noli Azada cannot still accept her death and keeps on recalling their final moments.

"Inaakbayan ko siya pero naramdaman ko mainit ang katawan noong dinala namin sa hospital. Umiyak na lang ako noong nalaman kong bilang na lang ang araw niya. Sabi nila kailangan ang life support. Groggy na talaga siya," said Azada.

Tejada may be gone but her legacy still continues. Connie Sorio, officer of the independent Homeworkers Association is steadfast in her belief that they will continue in pursuing Tejada's dream.

"Her courage and bravery to come out in the open galvanize the Filipino community and the Canadian in general," said Sorio.

Public viewing is scheduled on Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 6 p.m. at the De Marco's Funeral Home in North York.

Tejada’s remains will be flown to the Philippines where a family wake awaits at their hometown in Bulbulala Lapas, Abra and will be buried at Canan Cemetery Lapas, Abra. Flight details have yet to be confirmed.
