MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday said an investigation has been launched into the murder of a Filipina who was allegedly stabbed to death in Singapore.

A DFA statement said it received confirmation from its embassy in Singapore about the death of the Filipina last March 15.

A Todayonline.com report identified the victim as Rosalyn Pascua, 30, a resident of Peony Mansion in Bencoolen Street. Pascua’s body allegedly bore multiple stab wounds.

“An autopsy has been conducted on the Filipina and the Embassy has requested a copy of said autopsy report, which it will provide to the deceased's next of kin.  A Coroner's Inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” the DFA said.

The embassy said it is assisting in the ongoing police investigation and will provide assistance to the family including the early repatriation of the Filipina's remains.

Meanwhile, Migrante International sympathized with the victim’s family and urged the Philippine government to probe the case.

“We hope that justice will be achieved in this case and will not be counted in the long list of mysterious deaths where culprits have never been surfaced and punished. To date, many cases remain unresolved and it seems the Philippine government has already washed its hands off these cases.” Migrante’s chairperson, Garry Martinez said.

Martinez noted that while Filipino migrants remember Flor Contemplacion’s death in Singapore, another Filipina was found murdered in the said country. “It is quite saddening that as we remember Contemplacion’s death, we are confronted with another death of a kababayan in Singapore under mysterious circumstances,” he said.

Migrante, together with overseas Filipino workers and their families marched to Mendiola to mark the 15th year death anniversary of Contemplacion.

Under President Arroyo’s rule, Martinez said 6 OFWs were beheaded allegedly due to the lack of representation from the government. He added that about 26 are on death row in the Middle East alone, while hundreds more are languishing in jails in different countries abroad.

"Shame on the Arroyo administration for being the foremost violator of the United Nations Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families,” said Martinez.
