A 58-year-old Filipino nurse received an award for spending 20 years of her life working in a hospital in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

Florie Yuzon is the first Pinay nurse to be employed at the Mohammed Al-Dossary Hospital in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Yuzon has been with the hospital for 20 years.

She personally received her award from the hospital’s chairman Samir Al-Takafi. She and another nurse received awards during the annual nursing day celebration.

“Labis akong natuwa sa pagtanggap ko sa araw na ito ng aking award mula sa aming chairman Mr. Samir Takafi. Masaya ako sa trabaho ko kahit konti lang ang sweldo," said Yuzon.

The Occidental Mindoro native is the very first Filipino nurse to receive the award in the hospital’s history.

"She's very smart, very active and sometimes she works with me. I like her so much. I really wish her a very successful and happy life," said Dr. Shirin Pervin Khan, the hospital’s consultant pediatrician.

Nursing director Mary Jane Tupas described Yuzon as a friendly and dedicated nurse.

"She gets along with her other colleagues,” said Tupas.

Other Pinay nurses who served the hospital for more than five and 10 years also received their awards.

Yuzon is among the more than 60 Filipino nurses working at the Mohammed Al-Dossary Hospital who earned the respect of their superior.

"They are very active. They are always smiling and hardworking and the standard of our hospital, Mohamed Al-Dossary Hospital, they have really improved a lot,” said Dr. Shirin Pervin Khan. -- report from Florante Catanus, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau, Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia
