Pinay fights deportation in US: report
A Filipina is now fighting possible deportation from the United States after US authorities said she was allegedly illegally staying in the country.
According to a report by BakersfieldNow.com, the woman was identified as Jane Valdez of Bakersfield in California.
The report stated that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials found out that Valdez has broken the law.
The mother of two children ages 7 and 11, Valdez is married to her American husband Richard, a former US Marines.
BakersfieldNow.com was able to interview Valdez from Lerdo Jail last month. Valdez told the reporter that the incident is a very draining and a mental torture for her and especially for her two children.
Valdez has been living in the US for years. On March 12, ICE agents ordered her to go to an interview in Fresno. However, she was reportedly immediately taken into custody.
Lawyer David Neumeister said that the incident was “pretty much a set up” because “they knew what they were going to do."
Neumeister had reportedly filed a number of requests and delays for Valdez's case for years.
Still according to the report, ICE stated that the Filipina first came to the US in 1993 on a fiancée visa and married. Later, after she and husband in her first marriage divorced, Valdez reportedly married a second and third time.
Valdez reportedly was not actually divorced when she purportedly married her third husband. She did marry the third man again however after the divorce was final, the report added.
Valdez applied but was denied to become a legal resident based on her second marriage in 1997. However, ICE said she never left the country as ordered. She was arrested and posted a bail bond in 1998.
Furthermore, ICE said Valdez never went to court. In 1999 she was again taken into custody and sent back to the Philippines. The following year, Valdez allegedly came back to the US illegally.
Her husband Richard is now finding ways to let her stay in the US. She said that she has not done anything wrong.
