The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday announced that all Filipinos living in the earthquake-affected L’Aquila are accounted for.
In a press statement, the DFA said that this was the report sent by the Philippine Embassy in Rome.
Emmanuel Fernandez, Chargé d'Affaires of the Philippine Embassy, earlier dispatched a consular team to the area.
L'Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo, was hit by an earthquake last April 6.
The consular team’s task is to check on the condition of Filipinos in the area. According to the team, Filipino Jefferson Pugal, who sustained minor injuries, has undergone treatment and is well.
The team stated that Filipinos at the emergency center set up by the Italian Civil Protection Office have been provided numbered tents as temporary shelter. The tents are of reportedly of good quality and are well-heated.
Also, the Filipino community in Rome is helping gather resources to deliver basic necessities to the Filipinos in L'Aquila.
Meanwhile, a small group of Filipinos left the emergency center to go back to a hotel where they initially sought shelter in the locality of Cansatessa. Report said that the owner of the shelter, an employer of one of the Filipinos, has offered to accommodate the group up to one year.
The team also reported that it will assist Filipinos in L'Aquila in reconstructing their travel documents and will be liberal in the documentary requirements.
