Concert king Martin Nievera has arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada for his upcoming performance in the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight on May 2.

“I’m great! A little jetlagged, just got off the plane but I’m excited. Now I’m more excited than nervous!” Nievera told ABS-CBN.

Nievera was chosen by the Filipino pound-for-pound king to sing the Philippine national anthem at the start of the main event of the fight dubbed as The Battle of the East and West. The match is expected to draw millions of people across the globe to the MGM Grand Arena to watch the fight.

The Philippines' Concert King said singing the national anthem "Lupang Hinirang" before millions of Pacquiao fans could be daunting daunting for any Filipino singer. He said he had to undergo his own "training" and rehearse the anthem countless times to make sure that he would not make a mistake on Saturday.

“I trained as if I was the one fighting the fight. I want our national anthem to be the best. If the sound system in MGM is good, I’ll sing minus one. If not, I’ll sing acapella,” he said.

He is proud to be the very first male singer picked by Pacquiao to sing the national anthem in the boxing fight.

“I’m so touched and honored to have been chosen to sing the national anthem. I’m very, very excited. I hope I’m not the last. If Manny wins, more men will be asked to sing the national anthem,” he said.

For the occasion, the singer will be wearing a Francis Magalona designed t-shirt inside his suit.

“As a tribute to Francis, I’ll be wearing his shirt inside my suit,” he said.

“To Manny Pacquiao, just focus. Don’t worry about anything else but the fight, get him! Don’t relax with this guy! Just kick his butt!” he said.

Well-known Hollywood celebrities like Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon were spotted in Las Vegas and would likely watch the boxing match.

Show business and other personalities from the Philippines are also expected to arrive before Pacman’s fight. Reports from Gretchen Fullido and ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
