Amid flu scare, Pinoys won't watch Pacquiao live
Some Filipinos in Reno are going to miss out on the live action at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada when boxing icon Manny Pacquiao faces rival Ricky Hatton on May 2.
With one confirmed case of swine flu infection in Reno, some Pinoy boxing enthusiasts worry about going to crowded areas. They would rather stay indoors and watch the match on television.
"We're trying to avoid unnecessary exposure from certain viruses that maybe happening in crowded places," said Dr. Jun Aragon.
State health officials confirmed that a two-year-old girl from Reno, Nevada has been infected with the virus. This was confirmed by tests conducted at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.
The report stated that the girl's family did not travel to Mexico or in other areas contaminated by the swine flu virus. Nevada health officials suspect that the girl possibly got the infection from her daycare center.
Reno is 450 miles or more than 724 kilometers from Las Vegas where the Pacman vs Hitman's bout is going to be held.
"I have to worry about the swine flu," said another Filipino.
Top Rank Promotions announced that undercard fights include Mexican fighters. Top Rank’s Bob Arum assured that the Mexican fighters are healthy and that necessary precautions will be implemented to protect all boxers.
Swine flu, which has already spread to other countries, has been blamed for the deaths of more than 100 people in Mexico. With reports from Bandila
