'Super Oman' comics bags awards in Dubai

An overseas Filipino worker in Dubai has not only been noted for his creativity but was also named as one of the winners in a prestigious award.


Manuel Perito, a risk engineer for the Oman Insurance Company has been recognized for his work by the Dubai Quality Group during the IDEAS.ARABIA 2008 held last April 22 at the Mina Salam Hotel in Madinat Jumeirah.


Perito’s winning creative piece was the technical-info comics he called "Super Oman", which was about an Arab superhero who advices situational problems on safety and risk management.


"Super Oman was created to educate, and instill loss control and safety information to our insured clients in a graphical and illustrative form," Perito said in a letter to members of the Philippine Society of Safety Professionals (PSSP). He is an active member of the PSSP in the United Arab Emirates.


"Super Oman" bagged a trophy for Special Award of Appreciation and First Runner-Up in Health and Safety Category.


The 37-years-old Perito said "Super Oman" was given the special recognition due to its innovativeness and creativeness.


A civil engineer graduate of the Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila, Perito said in his letter that he grew up with comics and "occasionally dabbed as a comic writer and illustrator in my younger years without conflicting my primary job in the field of safety and insurance."


"And the influence was evident that even in my technical work, I still inject the comics illustration to disseminate information on health, safety and risk management awareness," he added.
